ASPACI are hosting a 6-day Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Course package, to be held at Penrith Panthers Leagues Club, Sydney, between Sunday, November 27 through to Friday, December 2, 2011. You may recall that Penrith Panthers is where we held our 2000 Crash Conference. The course will be conducted by Mr Brad Muir of US based Crash Data Specialists LLC, who are a training organisation specialising in training in the use of the Bosch CDR System. Mr Muir is one of the leading US authorities on Event Data Recording (EDR) and CDR technology, and is extensively commissioned to train police organisations across America. Whilst the Bosch CDR tool is designed for US/Canada spec vehicles, it can be used to access a number Australian spec vehicles such as the Holden VE Commodore Series along with many of our Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models. Some Toyota models are expected to be available from June 2011. Ford models are currently under investigation. In fact, the Victorian Police Major Crash Unit have several Bosch CDR kits, which they have been using to download crash data from a number of VE series Commodores over that last few years. Mr Muir's course in November will be specifically tailored for the Australian market. Mr Dan Walker, business manger for the Bosch CDR product in the US, says that Bosch are well aware of the demand for the CDR product outside the US and are putting forth an effort to expand the product globally. Bosch are currently in the investigation phase of their global CDR strategy. In relation to ASPACI's planned Australian CDR Course, Mr Walker writes, “I am encouraged that you are working with Brad to further expand the CDR technology into your market. He is a very talented and knowledgeable resource in the world of EDR and CDR”. Make no mistake, CDR is not coming to Australia...... it is already here!!!! We just need to adapt to the available technology and make it part of our industry. This is clearly your best opportunity to become trained in EDR and CDR technology, as applicable to Australian vehicles, and start applying it to your profession. The course is also a great resource for learning the ins and outs of vehicle SRS systems and how they work during a collision, and also provides some good insight into vehicle diagnostics generally. The course package will be delivered in 3 series and will run for 6 days: - Day 1 (Sunday):
CDR System Operators Course (details). - Days 2 – 5 (Monday-Thursday):
CDR Analysis and Applications Course (details). - Day 6 (Friday):
Will cover some advancedCDR Applications.
Due to the relatively smaller Australian vehicle market, series 2 & 3 will be merged, which will enable a greater coverage of advanced CDR applications. The cost of the course package is $675 for ASPACI members and $785 for non-members. Registration form here. Course registrations will open from the 1 June 2011 and will be strictly limited to a maximum of 50 students, on a first come first served basis. Our course accommodation rates at Panthers have been locked in at $129.00 per night (single or twin rooms), details of which will be included on the registration form.
