BATHURST '98

      Mount Panorama, Bathurst- 3, 4 & 5 April 1998

Our testing at Mount Panorama and in the grounds of Charles Sturt University was recorded with the aid of a VDO Kienzle UDS* Accident Data Recorder.  This 'black box' for road vehicles records date, time, speed (calibrated), acceleration (longitudinal and lateral), magnetic field (electronic compass), the status of brakes, indicators, lights and ignition, as well as monitoring up to three user definable inputs.

For more info on this equipment contact Egon Meinhardt at VDO Australia.

UDS Data Recoder - all data
UDS Data Recorder - Full Data
This data is from testing in the grounds of Charles Sturt University, indicating brake usage, vehicle speed, longitudinal and transverse acceleration.  This data is from a 'surprise' test. The vertical red line has been added to show the start of braking (after 'surprise' reaction).  Note the lateral acceleration trace that show there was a right and left turn (90 degree) before the test location. There was also braking prior to the left hand turn.

UDS Data Recorder - zoomed data
UDS Data Recorder - Zoomed Acceleration Data
This data is from testing at Mount Panorama indicating longitudinal and transverse acceleration in a emergency braking manoeuvre.  The vehicle was fitted with ABS brakes.
